| Contacting me | Oct 16, 2008: After 6 years, I finally remembered the e-mail address and password to log into this site.
In case you haven't figured it out, due to the lack of postings and reviews, I am no longer writing for Phillymusic.com. This is mainly because at first I could not devote the time needed for this type of work due to job committments, but now it's for an even bigger reason. I don't live in the area anymore.
My time with Phillymusic.com has been exciting and very educational to say the least. I've met some terrific bands and great people. The local Philadelphia music scene has come a long way since I first got involved and I'm so glad that I was able to be a part of it for some time.
So in the meantime, thank you all for being a part of Phillymusic and I wish you all good times and good tunes!
Keep Rockin'!

| | R.I.P. Dave Blood, Bassist of The Dead Milkmen | Mar 11, 2004: Dave Blood, bassist for defunct Philadelphia rock act the Dead Milkmen, committed suicide Wednesday, according to a post by his sister on the band's official message board (http://deadmilkmen.com). He will be missed by all of Philadelphia, and PhillyMusic.com sends our condolences to his family and many friends.
"This morning Dave Blood is no longer with us," wrote Blood's sister, Kathy. "David is my brother. Since the breakup of the band David has never really found his niche in life. My brother was a smart, clever and talented person. Inner peace has seemed to elude him for the last many years. Sometime last night David chose to end his life. He left a note that I don't know all of what it said, he was not elaborate -- but he said he just could not stand to go on any longer." | | NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS | | Feb 27, 2002: Hey guys. I just wanted to let you know there's a new address in which to contact me. My another.com e-mail has since been ended as another.com has decided to charge for their e-mail accts.....and I don't know about you, but I prefer free e-mail, so you can now reach me at
rockinkiwi@yahoo.com
I just figured I should let you all know.
Keep rockin!
-Amy | | Isle Of Q That's Who! by Pery | When Isle of Q took the stage to open Pierre Robert’s 20th Anniversary concert, I did not expect too much and it appeared many in the audience where wondering "Isle of Q, who are they?” Because even though they are a Philly band none of the local radio stations are doing much to promote that fact that there is a band from Philadelphia on a major label! Their debut album, while strong in its performance and material, is not too distinctive and they get lost in the sea of power pop grunge-like bands. But from the opening chords of the first song of their 30-minute set, my mind was changed.
The band had many factors weighing against them this night.
1) They went on at 6:30
2) The Spectrum was only about 1/3 filled
3) They had to play around 2 other bands gear
4) They were hardly even mentioned as being on the bill
5) It was not “their” show
6) They only got 30 minutes on stage
Many lesser bands would have turned in a mediocre performance under these circumstances. But the way Isle of Q played, you would have thought they were headlining a 2-hour show to a sold out Spectrum.
David Ringer’s voice was in top form, powerful and full of expression. The rest of the band was very tight and full of energy, especially guitarist Doug Kennedy who danced around the stage like a seasoned rock-star.
Unfortunately the sound system was typical of one that was reserved for opening bands and there was the ever-present feedback and noise. But Isle of Q did not care and decided to prove in 30 minutes that they are capable of holding their own with the more established bands on the bill like Fuel and David Lee Roth.
While they had a funkier edge in their previous incarnation (The Greenhouse), this version of the band rocks much harder and there is a much fuller sound than before. While I am not a big fan of some of the heavier bands that are out today Isle of Q stand out as a bit more melodic, thoughtful, and driving. At the end of their allotted 30 minutes I found myself wanting to see and hear more of the band in a live setting. Their live show even prompted me to go back and give another listen to the CD I had initially cast aside. Hopefully their next CD (which is in the writing phase) will bring the guys to a wider audience across the country. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend catching their live show. As of now there are no dates scheduled but you can usually catch them at the Grape Street in Manayunk.
